Alaska Caribou Hunting

.We've hunted Caribou in Alaska twice.  Both times we hunted the Mulchatna herd.  What an experience!

Our first 'bou hunt was a self-guided hunt. We spent many months researching and planning, buying gear and determining where we should hunt. It was a geat hunt - lot's of work but worth it! We hired High Adventure Air in Soldotna to fly us into the Mulchatna herd. We hunted for 7 days - and spent 3 of them in the tent weathering a major storm that blew in off the Bering Sea! We both shot bulls, I shot a beautiful, symmetrical double shovel bull. I shot him at about 275yds - when I walked up on him I thought "He's as big as a steer!!" and soon regretted shooting him 4 miles from camp!!! The weather was really off that day - it was nearly 70 degrees in late September! The flies were horrendus as I caped and cut up several hundred pounds of meat. Little did we know that right behind that warm air was a monster of a storm!

Our second time we booked thru Cabelas. We determined that we could not do a self-guided trip any cheaper than a guided trip - and we could focus on hunting and not have to worry about all the logistics!
